Out Of My Mind is about a 5th grade girl, Melody Brooks, who, ‘isn’t normal.’ Melody has Cerebral Palsy and is limited to a wheel chair. She has no way to communicate other than using a board with some words pasted on by the wonderful Mrs.V. Melody is very smart and has ‘mountains’ to say. One day, Melody finds her voice through a little machine she calls ‘Elvira’. Some aren’t ready for Melody to be heard, and shun her. With the help of Mrs.V and her family, Melody is able to make a stellar achievement. That is, until something goes awfully wrong.
Out Of My Mind is a moving, touching book great for any age group. Out Of My Mind will move readers deeply. Sharon Draper tells this story so beautifully it will bring you to tears. This book is one of the best I have ever read and I hope you will read it.
